A traditional Japanese-style sake bottle with shino glaze. Hand-thrown on a kickwheel, glazed and then fired to 1300 degrees C with charcoal and wood. The base and decoration were hand-carved using a custom-made tool.
This glaze has a variety of subtle colour shades, as well as golden specking from the iron, which shines beautifully when held in the light. As is tradition with this type of glaze, finger marks have been left visible at the base of the pot, where it was dipped. The black colour around the rim is where carbon from the wood smoke has become trapped in the glaze.
The piece is approx. 14cms tall and 9cms diameter.
The artist's seal has been impressed to the base.
Postage and packing by first class recorded delivery is free with this item.
