Full description

A handbag worked from handspun rare breed Wensleydale fleece. Hand dyed in a lavender, aster and silverbirch colourway of soft lilacs and purples. it is lined in vintage matching silk and has a Victorian mother of pearl button.

The handbag measures 27cm wide by 17cm deep (actually 27cm including the curls!) and the handle is 48cm long.

Please take the time to read this, as it will help you to appreciate how truly unique each hand bag is!

My handbags are made from the fleece of rare breed British sheep, such as the Lincoln longwool.

I hand wash the fleece, then dye it with subtle washes of colour that enhance it's natural texture and lustre.

The next step is to hand spin the yarn on my Ashford traveller spinning wheel.

The fleece is not carded, as I want the unique qualities of the rare breed wools to show in the yarns I create.

I use the natural locks or curls from each fleece as I knit. The fleeces are naturally wavy and curly, so I feel it is important that this can be seen in the finished item-it also ensures that each handbag is an absolute one-off!

Then, I painstakingly line the bag with either silk or vintage fabric and finish with a vintage or hand crafted fastener.

There are 5 hand processes to work through before I am satisfied with the quality and originality of each bag!
