Each crow chosen for this series had a little something that gave the image life - in the case of this little chap, it was the strong downward sweep of the wing set off beautifully by just a touch of sunlight coming through the feathers as he turned. This particular crow was photographed at Redcar beach for a project studying the local corvid species. I travelled to many locations in Yorkshire where I was living at the time to see which species could be found where. This is a carrion crow, the one people think of when we say 'crow'. I took hundreds of photos and selected just a few to draw from that expressed the different behaviours and characters of these fascinating birds.
