About this Make
This technique was shown to me by a lovely lady from the knitter’s guild at a craft show.
This make comes with a warning, it is addictive, after I made my first finger knitted scarf I finger knitted all the wool I had!
It's easy, fun and anyone can do it from kids to great grandparents!
Materials required
You will need some wool and a pair of hands, its best if the hands are your own!
I would reccomend at least 4 strands of double knitting or chunky wools to the equivelant. Fun fashion wools mixed in gives great effects and textures.

Buy One!
Can't be bothered to make one of these things but still want one? Go and buy one instead !
Step 1. Casting On
Instruction:
Gather your chosen wool together and make a slip knot at the end.
- Put the slip knot round your thumb
- Weave the wool over the first finger, under the next and over the third
- Go round the pinky, under the ring finger, over the middle finger
- Round the first finger
Step 2. The Knit
Instruction:
Bring the yarn accross your fingers
- Lift the loop you made round your first finger over the yarn and over the end of your finger leaving a new loop
- Repeat for all fingers and your pinky
- Bring the yarn round the back of your hand and then back accross the front of your fingers
Thats the knit, repeat this about 5 times and go onto the next step.
Step 3. The Knit part 2
Instruction:
- Turn your hand over, it looks messy, dont worry thats just the way it is.
- Take the slipknot off of your thumb giving you a tail
- Pull the tail and stretch out the knitting, you should have a tube of knitting
- Continue knitting, every 6 or 7 rows pull your work from the back to stretch it out.
You can make it as long as you like
To cast off you cut the wool and either
- Take the loops off your fingers and thread the tail through each loop in turn then pull to tighten or
- slip the loop from your pinky onto your ring finger and knit these then slip the new loop from your ring finger onto your middle finger and knit this, slip the loop from your middle finger onto your first finger and knit these then put the tail through the last loop and pull
Weave the tails up through the knitting and cut off the ends.
You are Done!
You can leave the ends as they are or you could add some pompoms or tassles if you like!
Step 4. Ideas For Wearing It
Instruction:
You could wrap it round and round and round
Half it and then wrap it round
Half it and half it again wrap it round and put the ends through the loop

Why oh why did I look here. I've got the bug well and truly. Your instructions are so clear that I am now half way through number 12. What will I do with them all. I'm an addict, but how theraputic is this. Thanks.

Thanks for this. I've always wondered how to finger knit. And, did you know this is featured on WhipUp today? Jo
Wow - I've just made my first scarf! One 50g ball of chunky wool & 2 pom poms! Thanks for a great tutorial
Does anyone have a rough idea of how much wool is needed to make an 'average' length scarf ? I've tried this with oddments of wool & am hooked!
Excellent tutorial, thank you - yet another craft to add to my list of "must tries"!

I LOVE IT!!! I can teach it to my kids. I had one idea though. When I finished this I felt like it was too thin so I made two more of the same length and braided them together before adding the pom-pom balls at the end. It's so cute!
Wow, if this is novice I am in trouble! lol I will give it my best though as it looks like a good amount of fun.
Brilliant!! My seven year old really wants to knit but struggles with the needles. I found your 'make' and she has followed the instructions all by herself and is very proud of herself!! I'll post some pics of her creation on my blog later if you fancy having a look! Thank you so much!!! Daisie xxx
