About this Make
This is just a little taster to get you started. Making your own felt is easy, addictive and such fun too. do this with the kids!
Just a quick word about fleece - not all fleece will felt properly so you are better buying fleece (or tops) rather than collecting it randomly from the fields. that white, bobbly stuff that you find attached to barbed wire is full of harmful chemicals and probably won't felt either.
Funkyfibres sells fleece in her shop here on Folksy and she has some particularly lovely blue faced leicester tops. http://folksy.com/shops/knittingsheep
I also recommend Merino and Falklands fleece for the best results.
Materials required
- Fleece (or tops)
- Hot water in a jug
- Liquid soap
- Hands (!)

Have been making some of these at the weekend and i'm in the process of making them into a necklace, have really enjoyed it. Thanks for the make......x
So-ooo... liquid soap is any soap in a bottle - like the hand-pump stuff? I love this! AstroJill
This is great, thank you. I have been wanting to make felt balls for some of my sewing projects and now I know how! Thank you!
I believe what you call fleece or tops in the UK, we call wool roving in the U.S. I haven't done this; but, know someone who has, and that's what she calls it. Gotta try it ! Looks like fun !
cool! I had done this in art school years ago but totally forgot how easy it is!
i am a madfelt maker myself and it's great to see other peoples advice on this subject as different people have differnt views on making it. although now i know how to make the felt twists, thank you!
These are lovely, cannot wait to make some of these, looks fun! Think I will try and make myself a necklace.
I made some of these with my nieces once. We left them to dry and I popped to the loo. When I came back the girls had squashed them all! Once you've made these beads you can also stitch seed beads and sequins into them to make them sparkle. I recently got some in Morocco which have been individually embroidered into as well.
Great make, i look forward to further felt making! If you try anyone elses make why not show us how you got on here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/showyourmake/
