About Dew Drop Crafts

Dew Drop Crafts

Hand painted home decor with a little bit of flora, fantasy and sparkle....oh and lots of colour!

Welcome to Dew Drop Cards & Crafts.

A little about me
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My name is Julie Maginn and I live on the beautiful Isle of Wight off the south coast of England. I have been interested in art and craft all my life but never seriously until I was made redundant in 2010 and a chance conversation made me think about expanding my card making hobby into a business. I live with my parents and dog, a golden retriever called Ben who is the Drop in Dew Drop (me being the Dew for Julie!). I am just a tad obsessed with the colour purple, I collect dragons, I love Christmas, I love painting, I love the sea, I love really dramatic stormy skies and I have a really dodgy back!! So that's me.
A little about my business
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My little business was born in July 2010 and started with a stall and a couple of local outlets selling my cards. I started making different paper based products, calendars, bookmarks etc which were all going down well then one day I was watching a craft channel and discovered a very talented artist/crafter called Sheena Douglass who was showing us a technique called paint fusion which merged rubber stamping with acrylic painting in a folk art style. I was hooked and from there I started hand painting all sorts of home decor items like candles, frames and canvases. Then with my dad's help I began designing MDF shapes, such as the Isle of Wight, and my dad now armed with an electric fretsaw began cutting! We had now expanded into clocks and our Isle of Wight clocks took off like I could never have imagined! I paint anything from flowers to scenes around the island. By now the cards had taken quite a back seat and to date I have several outlets around the Island selling our home decor type things as well as my weekly stall which my dad runs for me as I am no longer able to with my back, and of course my Folksy shop.

A little about my products
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have quite a large range now mainly because I just love what I do so much I am forever getting new ideas and wanting to try new things. I love to hand paint all sorts of flowers. Pansies and sweetpeas are my favourite but poppies are probably my most popular I also enjoy fantasy themes and it seems many of you do too. I paint all sorts of things, clocks, candles, flowerpots, canvases, frames, key hangers, hanging decorations.... I also love all sorts of messy inky, stamping techniques and am constantly learning. At Christmas I am in my element and there are just not enough hours in the day to produce all the ideas I have. I probably use acrylic paint the most but also watercolour and glass paint, embossing powders, mica, glitter and more recently have taken to using air dry paper clay too. I have a melt pot and enjoy creating unique pendants and mixed media artworks. I love MDF and we design and cut our own but I do also buy from other sources sometimes. I have a large desk dedicated to my painting but like most crafters usually end up working in an area the size of a postage stamp surrounded by an ever increasing pile of stuff!!
So, that's Dew Drop Cards & Crafts, thank you so much for stopping by.
