Handmade Ceramic Pretties, made to be touched guaranteed to provoke a smile...

Welcome to MatildaBelle,

From a teeny workshop nestled in the rolling fields of Ryedale I lovingly create Handmade Pretties, i predominantly work with Earthenware Clay and Porcelain although lately I have been venturing into stoneware.

My Mums Beautiful hand Knitted and sewn garments for my daughter were the catalyst to MatildaBelle being born. I had always loved my Nana's button box and treated it as a treasure which over the years we added to. However for my Daughters clothes they didn't quite suit and I felt modern buttons especially plastic ones just didn't do my daughters Beautifully hand knitted jackets and cardigans justice. The rest as they say is history as I set about creating my own ceramic buttons.

I have always been creative and quite handy but Clay and Glaze well wow what a learning curve, sometimes the kiln gods are just not on your side and you can loose a weeks work. But it is so satisfying when you quite literally have a go and the results are stunning I love sharing that through my work.

Working with Clay allows me to spread my wings especially through my love of carving. The majority of MatildaBelle patterns are designed by me and carved allowing soft clay to be impressed and the design to live on in my Ceramic work. This also allows me the time to take in the natural world around me, be it a seed head from the back lane or the mix of colours in spring.
To bring joy and make people smile through the humble medium of clay, the world around me and my imagination is such a lovely feeling, thank goodness my mum knit that first jacket.

Sustainability is important to MatildaBelle and as such I endeavour to not use new packaging but rather donations from lovely neighbours. Wherever possible items will be sent using recycled and donated packaging.
The packaging for MatildaBelle Buttons is made from scratch using donated previously used brown paper packaging and no longer needed washed fabric, It is a labour of love but so worth the results in many ways.

Please note that MatildaBelle buttons can be washed by hand or in a washing machine. If using a machine please only use a wool cycle with a maximum of a 800 spin. Turn the garment inside out or place in a pillow case to reduce the risk of the buttons directly hitting the machine drum.

Each of my pieces are totally unique with a character of its own, no two pieces are the same, to me that is the beauty of Handmade.
