“Beautiful glass sandblasted in Surrey”
I have always been fascinated by glass and started by working with stained glass. In 2003 I went on a short course to learn sandblasting and it fired my imagination when I realised the possibilities it opened up to create stunning artwork. I have been creating original and unique bespoke sandblasted glass pieces in my studio near Epsom, Surrey since 2009.
The design process always begins with my original hand drawn designs, which are then used to make a vinyl mask which is either cut by hand or a plotter, depending on the design. This mask is then used to protect the clear parts of the design as it is sandblasted onto the glass; the process involves firing fine grit at the glass, abrading the surface to produce a design which can never wear or rub off. With delicate skilled adjustments of the blasting pressure different depths and effects can be achieved.
